Case: Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia

12 yr old boy, known spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia, now presenting with pain, mainly in the right hip. Pain has been gradually increasing over the last 6 months and now is quite disabling. He gets around with the help of a Zimmer frame within the house.

Arthrodiastasis for 2 months with pendular active-passive movement is a worthwhile try.

While I've not had experience with hip arthroscopy in spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia, developmental hip dysplasia is increasingly recognized as a cause of infolded labral cartilage, which with approaching or established skeletal maturity can tear, producing an internal derangement pattern not unlike that seen in knee internal derangement due to cartilage lesions, these of the meniscus.
