Fellowship Description
This fellowship offers a unique experience in the management of patients with shoulder problems and the opportunity to master all aspects of shoulder surgery. There is a large volume and breadth of exposure to the entire spectrum of shoulder disorders (4,000 new patient visits, 12,000 clinic visits, 1,500 operations). The experience includes intensive training in arthroscopy, open reconstruction, arthroplasty and diagnostic ultrasound. The fellow will also participate in teaching shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty courses. The opportunity exists to participate in the care of professional sports teams. The Orthopaedic laboratory at the University of Texas is available for research as needed. The faculty is engaged in multiple, prospective randomized clinical trials as well as basic science investigations. We attempt to foster a lifetime commitment to research.
Additionally, there is an excellent exposure to disorders of the elbow including arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, arthroplasty, trauma, and nonunions. The fellow is exposed to numerous surgeons with the opportunity to focus on individual areas of interest. The fellow may emphasize shoulder and/or elbow areas as desired.
The program is part of the ASES fellow selection process. We conduct interviews after Labor Day and offer positions in mid-December.
