The original Orthopaedic Device Reference (ODR) was first published in 1998. Dr. Robert G. Volz was its editor. Originally intended to be an annual publication, the rapid proliferation of orthopaedic devices made it a challenge to keep up. Our hope is to provide a site that would allow for the identification of orthopaedic implants to assist in the surgical management of patients with failed joint reconstructions in patients where a portion of the existing reconstruction will be retained. Identification of the implant based on its radiographic appearance is no substitution for obtaining the operative report or implant record, but rather helps to connect the surgeon with an implant supplier of a device that is not familiar to the surgeon. The reference section here has the broader aim of listing any and all implantable devices, not only for arthroplasty. If you would like to contribute an implant/image please sign up to become an Orthopaedia member or email your device and information to odr@orthopaedia.com.
